Leathsl Weapon This Aint Funny Anymore

  • The exploding toilet in the second film.
  • Most of the time that the "1, 2, 3, then go" issue comes up, which becomes a joint Heartwarming and Awesome the last time it occurs during the fourth movie.
  • Leo Getz' "They fuck you" rants and his catchphrase "Okay, okay!".
  • Both the opening of the third movie, and the little bit after the ending credits. Especially the latter, where Riggs and Murtaugh show up just before the bomb goes off - and they take off like a bat outta hell.
  • From the first film: "My mom says cops shoot black people!" Riggs busted up laughing, and it looked like Mel Gibson was genuinely laughing, too.
    • "Funny Aneurysm" Moment?
  • The look on Roger's face when he realizes the commercial Rianne was in is a condom commercial.
    • Followed by that guy who was building Roger's hobby room commenting about how she was so good in the commercial, it made him want to go out and buy rubbers. Riggs barely contains his laughter.
    • Roger ends up receiving a "rubber tree" from his collegues.
      • Even Roger eventually starts laughing about it.
    • Much later, Leo is watching TV and sees the commercial and Roger quickly tries to cover up the TV.
  • Riggs ramming his dislocated shoulder into a wall to re-set it with a massive grimace of pain—six inches in front of his psychologist's face. She just gives him a resigned look.
  • "How do I know you're the police?"

"After I shoot you through the door, you can examine the bullet! Open up!"

  • After Riggs and Murtagh are demoted, they have to deal with a jaywalker. Said jaywalker turns out to be a little obnoxious, so Riggs deals with the problem by pretending that they're just gonna kill him.
  • In 4, Riggs keeps hanging the picture of Murtaugh in his underwear (with backup copies to replace it if it gets taken down.) Murtaugh is getting more than furious.

Murtaugh: This shit ain't funny anymore!

    • After the two are promoted to captain, they see it again.

Riggs: Could we please knock out this shit already? This is your captain speaking.

      • He then puts it back up immediately after Murtaugh walks away.
  • Also in 4, Butters arrests a waiter from the restaurant who's at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Butters: You have the right to remain silent, so shut the fuck up! You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, we will get you the dumbest fuckin' laywer on Earth. If you get Johnnie Cochran, I'll kill you!

    • Then, after the guy turns out to be a waiter, he promises to sue Butters for the arrest, saying "Johnnie Cochran! He fight for me!"
    • Before that, when Butters is chasing the guy, he yells at him to stop, then yells "'STOP' IN CHINESE, MOTHERFUCKER!"
  • The opening car chase from Lethal Weapon 2:

[Riggs is about to drive up onto the center divider of an overpass in Trish's new car during a pursuit]

Murtaugh: You're not going to make it!

    Riggs: Yes, I will.

Murtaugh: [anxiously] There's not enough room!

Riggs: There's plenty of room, sure I'll make it!

[Riggs runs the car up onto the divider, scraping it along a metal guard-rail]

Murtaugh: [screaming as sparks fly] Ah, my side panel!

Riggs: Goddamn it, you were right. There wasn't enough room.

  • Lorna takes Riggs back to her place after a mission. While Riggs jokingly fiddles around with Lorna's stuff after she told him not to, he happens to find a The Three Stooges video game on her computer, much to Riggs' amazement since he too is a fan.
  • Even one for the bad guys as in the climax of part 1, when Joshua heads for Murtagh's home in revenge for foiling his scheme. Thankfully no one's home but he gets spooked by the TV playing Scrooge (1951).

Scrooge [on TV]: You boy? What day is it today?
    Boy: What day? Why it's-
Joshua: [shoots the TV] IT'S GODDAMN CHRISTMAS!

  • During the scene on the yacht in the third movie where Riggs talks to a drunken Murtaugh, Riggs tells Murtaugh that he might have slept with someone he shouldn't have, which was Lorna. Murtaugh punches Riggs off the boat assuming that he had slept with Rianne.
    • It should be noted this was right after Riggs had gotten finished saying Roger's family was his family, including referring to his children as like his own children. Which would include Rianne. But then again, Roger was also drunk.
    • And then, when Riggs says it was "Sgt. Cole" he had slept with, Roger says "Sgt. Cole in traffic?!" Adding to the humor, the drunken Roger thought Riggs was referring not to Lorna, but to Lorna's uncle!
  • Also in the third movie, Riggs shows Murtaugh on how to do a back spin kick. When Murtaugh attempts it, he ends up kicking a water cooler behind him because Riggs intentionally backed him into it. Made even more priceless when the precinct's shrink is right there to witness it, and mistakenly assumes it's Murtaugh acting out over a recent shooting he was involved in.
  • Riggs and Murtaugh crashing the Corrupt General - Triad deal simply by telling him that the money he's getting are fake and providing evidence. The General was not amused at the Triad's antics.

    Riggs: Huh? No applause?

*Cue the General grabbing his gun towards the Triad while shouting angrily*

  • Riggs, Murtaugh, and Butters spend a long time chasing down someone they think is a Triad, but turns out to just be a waiter at one of the local Chinese restaurants. To prove it, they demand to know what Today's Special is.

    Waiter (thinking): ...What's today?

    Butters: Uh, Wednesday!

    Riggs and Murtaugh: Yea, Wednesday!

Waiter: Oh! Uh, Sweet n' Sour Pork, Barbeque Spare Rib with Special Fried Rice...

  • This out-of-nowhere exchange during the Final Battle in 4.

    Riggs: Hey, Rog?!

    Murtaugh: Yeah?!

Riggs: What the hell's going on?! Why are you lying to me?! I.A. says you're on the take!

Murtaugh: Hey, I'm on the take?!

Riggs: Yeah! I think it's crazy too, but you've been spending a lot of money, and...

Murtaugh: You ever hear of Ebony Clark?!

Riggs: Yeah! She writes those cheesy sex novels!

Murtaugh: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, her!

    Riggs: Are you boinking her?!

Murtaugh: [thinks about it, then gets a big grin on his face] Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm boinking her!

  • The entire laughing gas scene in the fourth movie. While trying to interrogate Uncle Benny on the whereabouts of the Hong family, they give Uncle Benny some laughing gas in hopes to get him talking. It works, a little too much. The gas leaks through the mask, causing Riggs, Murtaugh and Butters to start laughing too. But they still take some for good measure. It's actually a rare moment to see them actually getting along with a villain character like Uncle Benny and having a good laugh with him.
    • This is also the moment where Riggs accidently reveals Butters is actually Murtaugh's son-in-law. The exchange between Murtaugh and Butters is funny, with Butters saying "Your baby is having my baby."
    • Uncle Benny gets points here to for being funny. When he says "I'm sleeping with my wife's two sisters", the other characters lose it while Riggs praises him for it. Uncle Benny saying "Not so good when my wife finds out."
    • While this is happening, Leo is in the other room getting his teeth worked on which is a total nightmare to him.
  • Something of a Dark Humor moment in 2. Arjen Rudd had earlier killed a man who had lost a shipment of gold coins. He'd had his office floor covered in plastic wrap, ostensibly because of a remodel, but actually to prevent forensic transfer. Later in the film, he's berating Pieter, who had carried out the earlier execution, for a string of recent failures. Pieter begins looking around casually, and his boss demands to know what he's doing. Pieter states that he's making sure he's not standing in plastic with a smarmy look on his face.
  • In the first film, after the jumper scene, Murtaugh yells for Riggs to come with him to an abandoned storefront. Murtaugh goes to slam the door shut, only for the door to slam past the threshold, making for a Funny Background Event.
  • In the third film's climax, Murtaugh is ambushed by a goon in the burning construction site. He throws an ax at the mook, killing him. Murtaugh mutters, "Son of a bitch."
  • The hospital scene at the end of the fourth film is just utter chaos.
  • In the fourth film, we see a newspaper headline reading "Bird Man Fowls Human Tank". People are already making fun of Murtaugh and his heart boxer shorts.
    • It also turns out that someone in the precinct has a bunch of copies of the same article - after Murtagh takes a copy of it down, Riggs has someone give him another copy while Murtaugh's back is turned. Later, after both men are made captains, Riggs pretends to order them to knock it off, before putting the same copy back up again.
  • Also in the fourth film, after the car chase ends with Riggs and Murtaugh crashing their car into a nearby truck when the last Triad gets killed in the process, Murtaugh sees a bumper sticker on the back of the truck reading, "If you can read this, you're TOO close!" Murtaugh says, "Maybe a little too close."
  • The ending of the second movie is a bit of a Tear Jerker when Murtaugh cradles a wounded Riggs and tells him not to die, and Riggs tells Murtaugh to reach into his pocket for his cigarette implying a One Last Smoke before he passes on... until Riggs tells him to throw it away, since those things will kill you. Riggs tells Murtaugh that he didn't die in his toilet, and why exactly would he be dying in Murtaugh's arms? The two share a laugh and what Murtaugh says about the now dead South African diplomats is, "They've been de-kaffir-nated."
